Mickie & Lois: Love on Trial

When boy meets girl the law allows them to create a family which survives even if death does them part. But when girl meets girl the law's protection is not a cape they can wear against the weathers of life. Even a pair of full-grown girls who devote their lives to the law get left out in the storm when lightning strikes.

If you lost the one you love how would it feel to have your love placed on trial? Meet Mickie and find out.

After Lois’ death, Mickie is left with the household debt they incurred together. The Tampa Police Pension Board denied Mickie’s request for survivor’s pension benefit in August 2001 and again at the appeal in February 2002. They granted Lois’ pension benefit to her family. In April 2002, Mickie filed a lawsuit against the city in Hillsborough County Circuit Court in April 2002. The court ruled in April 2004 that Mickie was not entitled to Lois’ pension. On top of that, the city is now suing Mickie to pay for their legal fee.
